Eyebrow and Eyelash Transplantation

Eyebrow and Eyelash Transplantation

Eyebrows are very important and prominent feature of the face. Eyebrows are the reference point where all other angles and contours of the face are adjusted. Eyebrow transplant has become a popular procedure as FUE practicing surgeons have mastered it. However, despite being a small area, it requires a lot of precision and knowledge regarding anatomy, eyebrow design, removal and implantation technique.

For eyebrow transplantation, attention is paid to the fact that hair follicles collected by FUE method are generally micro grafts. The canal is drawn taking into account the eyebrow line and the elongation line, and canal compatible with these lines are opened. In eyebrow transplantation, the roots should be planted at 25-30 degrees. When it is wider than this, it will cause discomfort to people as the eyebrows will grow vertically. For this reason, it is beneficial for an experienced doctor to perform your procedure. Positive results are obtained by transplanting between 300-600 roots in the eyebrows. The technique to be used during eyebrow transplantation is selected according to the quantity of lost eyebrows and the reasons of the condition.

On the transplanted eyebrows some hair loss may occur after the first session. However, after the spill, eyebrows will grow again. After the first transplantation session, you can see weak and thin eyebrow strands. This is a perfectly normal situation. Over time, thickening will occur and you will be able to have thicker eyebrow strands. One of the most curious issues about the subject is whether there is whitening in the transplanted eyebrows. There is no whitening caused by eyebrow transplantation, but when the hair and other parts of the body begin to whiten with the advancement of age, there may also be whitening in the transplanted eyebrows.

After the eyebrow transplantation, the patient should be informed to massage the eyebrows and to make corrections more often in the first year as the eyebrows will grow longer.

The upper eyelash replacement is possible using retrograde or anterograde techniques. The Anterograde technique was popularized by Marcelo Gandelman. The retrograde technique is similar to a standard hair transplant procedure in which the ampule where the follicles are placed is inserted through an incision in the edge of the lid. It has the advantage of greater control of the growth direction of the eyelashes, as well as the advantage of reducing the rate of inward growth of the eyelash that causes corneal abrasion. In this technique, a curved French eye needle is inserted 5-10 mm from the edge of the lid and a long hair is passed subcutaneously to the edge of the lid. Then the ampoule is pulled until it is buried under the needle entry point on the cover. The lower eyelash replacement is not recommended because they are less obvious aesthetically.

Anterograde technique for eyelash transplantation: The hair strand in the eye of the curved needle is placed under the insertion point of the ampule needle and the distal end of the hair is removed from the exit point of the needle at the edge of the lid.

It is difficult to achieve a natural curve and has a much higher rate of complications. It is a good alternative to artificial eyelash transplant for women.
